A try for RHS Ipswich’s Toby Eaton within the first minute set the tone for the first half as Connor Hein-Jones (Framlingham) added a second within five minutes, both converted by Guy Mawhood (Reed’s School), back for his first game since facing Crawshay’s Welsh three weeks ago. The next twenty minutes saw six more tries in a display of open and attacking rugby from both sides. The Boys Club scored with a deft chip through the defensive line, before Eaton added his second of the game. Caterham’s Elliot Hall then scored in his first game for the LAMBS immediately from the kick off, with one of the pick of the tries, before the Boys club responded once again. Man of the Match Pete Gordon (Perse School) and Cameron Sayer (Truro) added further tries – taking the score at 25 minutes to 40 – 12 in the LAMBS favour.
As the LAMBS stuck to their philosophy of playing Fast and Free the tries continued to follow as reward. Captain Theo Cassell (Bedford Modern), turned over the Boys Club on his own five meter line, before feeding Hein-Jones to go the full length of the field for his second of the game. Bradley Pinkham (Bablake) added another, before Eaton completed a first half hatrick, taking the score to 59 – 12 at the halftime whistle.
The break allowed the Boys Club of Wales to regroup and the LAMBS to make a number of personnel and positional changes. The second half started the way the LAMBS finished the first, with Ed Berridge (Uppingham), going under the posts in the first two minutes. As the boys in pink continued to press they gave away a soft try with a mistake under their posts, before the Boys Club pulled back another score with a well worked try in the wide channels. With the game breaking up the scores came less often, until Mawhood completed his own 21-point-haul with a 50 meter try. The final score saw the LAMBS run out 73 – 26 winners against the Boys Club of Wales.

“It was a great performance from the boys at the end of an intense domestic season. In many areas of the game we clicked today, especially in the first half, and the performance is evidenced by the result. Credit goes to the Boys Club of Wales for the fight they put up, especially in the second half, however this will give the touring squad great confidence ahead of travelling to the USA in two weeks time.“
The LAMBS travel to the USA on Friday 27th March for a four match series of games across San Fransisco, Sacramento and Seattle.
